WATCH: Six-Year-Old Blind Piano Player is Going Viral

A blind six-year-old boy from Ohio is going viral thanks to his incredible musical talent.

“The moment he could pull himself to reach the piano, he was playing the melody to ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,'” the boy’s mother said in an interview with CBS News. At the time Avett Ray Maness was only eleven months old. He’s since started seeing a piano teacher to improve his technique and understanding of music theory.

Avett’s unique talent and story has made him a popular performer. Even at such a young age, he regularly plays in front of live audiences. In April, he will be playing an important fundraising event for the Ronald McDonald House.

Avett just recently played his biggest show yet. Over nine hundred faculty and staff were in attendance at a show he played for an Ohio school district. This would be an incredible accomplishment for any child, but Avett’s blindness gives him a special platform to inspire others.

Avett’s mother, Sara Moore, works hard to teach young students how to best relate with their peers with disabilities. She wrote a book called “Cotton Candy Clouds”. It’s specifically about supporting children that are blind or visually impaired.

“He’s the character in the book,” Moore said. “Basically, he couldn’t see the clouds in the sky, so I wrote this book so he could see them.” Moore says the book serves as “a chance to talk about diversity and how everybody’s made special and we’re all born with our own gifts. I teach people how to engage with blind and visually impaired people.”

Her hope is that Avett’s story can encourage other kids just like him. So far, he seems to be doing just that.
