Strangers Send Retiring Mail Carrier to Hawaii

Long-term mail carrier Floyd Martin resigned from his neighborhood course in Marietta, Ga., on Thursday, which may have required a handshake or even a cake to send him off.

Rather, the Atlanta suburb made a show of affection and regard so huge for Martin, it was trending on social media, as a huge number of individuals the nation over are cheering along for what Floyd has meant to his neighborhood.

Neighbors in Marietta beautified their post boxes for him, gave him blessings and set up a sorrowful square gathering as they described all they ways he has been in excess of a mail transporter in the course of recent years.

Jennifer Brett, a writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, needed to archive what her town was accomplishing for Martin, so on his last day, she hopped in his truck with him and rode along as he conveyed mail to a portion of the 500 houses on his course. At that point she composed a Twitter channel about what she saw.

“Mr. Floyd is our hometown celebrity,” Brett said in an interview with The Washington Post.

Neighbor after neighbor had a story to tell about Martin, portraying how he generally grabs the paper and conveys it to old occupants, or feeds neighborhood felines or has a candy close by for the children.

Brett tweeted: “Doreen Hipps, 87, has been on his route since the beginning. Her granddaughter Amanda Seals spoke on her behalf tonight. ‘Dementia has set in, and she doesn’t see well anymore, but she still knows Floyd.’ ”

Additionally in Brett’s string: “ ‘This is my friend Jim,’ Floyd said, introducing Jim Pietrowski. Jim’s wife Charlotte recalled when the kids next door were little, they’d wait at the window for Mr. Floyd to roll up. They knew he was good for a lollipop. ‘When we met Floyd, it was like he was an old friend.’ ”

Furthermore, “Kids on his route love, love, L-O-V-E Mr. Floyd. Little Mae Bullington dressed up as Mr. Floyd on the day her school had career day. ‘I was so flattered,’ he said. ‘It touched my heart.’ “

Brett, a multiplatform columnist and advanced mentor at paper, said that when she woke up Friday morning after the gathering and her Twitter string had exploded, she couldn’t trust what number of individuals were moved by Martin. She composed an anecdote about it.
