10-Year-Old Girl Climbs El Capitan

Not many adults have climbed Yosemite National Park’s most famous landmark, El Capitan.

A ten-year-old girl just accomplished this feat and she’s turning heads.

Selah Schneiter may in fact be the youngest person in history to scale the 3,000 foot rock formation.

Assisted by her father and a friend of the family, the team spent a total of five days in the nearby Yosemite Valley working on a special climbing technique called “jumaring”. This technique was very important in helping Selah climb the treacherous route known as the “Nose”.

“Our big motto was ‘How do you eat an elephant?’ Small bites. One pitch at a time, one move at a time, one day at a time,” Schneiter told local media.

The nose is considered by many experienced climbers to be one of the most iconic climbs in the world.

Schneiter gets her love ok climbing from her family. Selah’s father Mike, who accompanied her on the climb, is a climbing instructor himself. He even tells a story about falling in love with Selah’s mother in Yosemite.

Mike posted about Selah’s accomplishment on his Instagram account.
