Officer Pulls Over Car for Speeding, Saves Baby’s Life

When Deputy Will Kimbro stopped a car for speeding, he had no idea he would end up saving a baby’s life.

Berkeley County, South Carolina released body camera footage of the incident, which took place on June 11 during a routine patrol.

When Officer Kimbro stopped the vehicle, the driver jumped out screaming for help. It soon became clear that the baby needed medical attention and was not breathing. Her body was already turning blue.

Officer Kimbro quickly asked the mother for the child’s name and then went to work on life-saving first aid. Checking her pulse, he began to massage the child’s heart.

Prompt action saved her life.

“Come on baby, cry for me, cry for me,” Kimbro says on the tape. “Open those eyes, sweetheart.”

When the baby starts crying, Kimbro encourages her: “As long as she’s crying like that she’s breathing. I want you to cry. Come on.”

“I think she’s gonna be OK. She’s breathing,” the officer says, reassuring the child’s mother.

Officer Kimbro continued to perform CPR until the child’s breathing stabilized.

He keeps performing CPR because her breathing goes on and off, Kimbro says in the video.

After what seems like an eternity, the baby’s chest begins to move. That means she’s breathing again on her own. Then the medical team arrived and took statements from Kimbro and the girl’s mother.

The child received further treatment at a local hospital before being released.

“As far as we know, the baby has been doing well,” said sheriff’s spokeswoman Carli R. Drayton

“Because of Deputy Kimbro’s steadfast, professional and heroic response, the 12-day-old baby was able to live,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

Kimbro received a medal for his heroic actions.
