A courageous pit bull recently saved his companion from a dangerous shark attack.
During a typical fishing trip, James White caught a massive 70 inch shark. As he pulled the shark out of the boat, it managed to sink its teeth into White’s ankle.
It would not let go and its teeth quickly sank deep into his flesh. White was worried.
Seeing his companion in danger, one-year-old pitbull Darby jumped into action.
“The first time I told somebody this, they were like, ‘You’re out of your mind, there’s no way that happened’,” the Californian said.
“Then I showed him the pictures and I’m like, ‘No it absolutely happened’.”
White was fishing on the beach at Bodega Bay, California last month. That’s when he felt a massive tug on his line. It took almost ten minutes to reel the catch in.
It was then that he discovered he had caught a shark nearly six feet long.
As White tried to unhook his catch, it flopped on the ground. Quickly, the shark sunk its teeth straight into his ankle.
“Immediately there was blood everywhere, the first bite punctured an artery,” he said.
“The pressure was intense.”
Darby was sitting in the car a short distance away when he heard his friend cry. Darby then leapt from the vehicle and ran down to the beach to help. It wasn’t long before the dog was biting the shark right back!
Instead of letting go, the shark bit down even harder.
“And I told him, ‘No back off’ and then [Darby] repositioned and grabbed it by the tail,” White said.
“He literally ran up the hill with it and pulled it off my leg.”
White threw the shark back in the water and it swam away.
Darby certainly saved White’s leg from further damage.
“He’s been a part of the family from day one. Just now a little more. If it wasn’t for him I would have been a lot worse,” said.
